Jason
King’s musical talents can be traced back through family generations.
His grandfather played bass and his father was a drummer. Like a good
son, he followed in Dad’s footsteps and began his musical adventures
behind the drum kit.
Born
and raised in the Peoria, Illinois area, J. Boy’s early influences
were a steady diet of Led Zeppelin, Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray, Van
Morrison, and Delbert McClinton. It didn’t take long before Jason
was beating a path across the region with area favorites such as The
Dave Chastain Band, Chuck Ely, Fade To Blue, and blues great---Eddie
King.
It
was during stints with T.V. Blues, and The Greg Glick Band, that J.
Boy and Jerry Lee first struck up their musical friendship. Not
only do Jerry and Jason slam together a solid one-two punch on bass
and drums, they compliment each other as a song writing force as well----most
notably---“If You Fall” on the “Mojo Palace”cd,
and a fresh new batch of collaborations to be included on the next Juju
Kings project.
Jason
performs on a DW kit with Zildjian cymbals and uses Vic Firth drum sticks.
When writing song lyrics, he uses a #2 lead pencil with a good eraser
and anything within his grasp to write on----paper, napkin, matchbook
cover, etc.
Whether
he is clutching a set of drum sticks or pencil and paper,-- Jason “J.
Boy” King always puts his soul on the line while adding a solid
groove and good spirit to The Juju Kings!!
